Ultron as seen in the comic book event Age of Ultron ( March 2013) For other uses, see Ultron (disambiguation). Ultron is a fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics. He is most recognized as a foe of the Avengers, and has a quasi-familial relationship with several of their members, especially his creator Hank Pym. He was the first Marvel Comics character to wield the fictitious metal alloy adamantium.[1] Ultron has appeared in several media adaptations, including animated television series, an animated film, and video games. The character is portrayed by actor James Spader in the 2015 film Avengers: Age of Ultron.[2] Contents 1 Publication history 2 Fictional character biography 2.1 1960s 2.2 1970s 2.3 1980s 2.4 1990s 2.5 2000s 2.6 2010s 3 Powers and abilities 4 Other versions 5 In other media 5.1 Television 5.2 Film 5.3 Video games 6 Reception 7 References 8 External links Publication history[edit] The character initially appeared as an unnamed character in a cameo in Avengers 54 (1968 with a first full appearance in Avengers 55 (1968). Ultron was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist John Buscema. Thomas, who has acknowledged he finds naming characters difficult, said he liked the -tron suffix and went from there.[3] Thomas said the idea of the character and his appearance were heavily based on Mechano, an obscure robotic villain who appeared in an issue of the Captain Video comic book.[1] He liked the robot's malicious looking smile, and showed it to Buscema.[3] Fictional character biography[edit] 1960s[edit] Although Ultron first appears in Avengers 54 (1968 the character is disguised for the majority of the issue as the Crimson Cowl, with his face only revealed on the last page of the issue and no name given to the character. The character leads the Masters of Evil against the Avengers, having hypnotized Edwin.
by Pamela Mc Clintock 9:16am PDT Disney and Marvel Studios' Avengers: Age of Ultron jumped the billion mark at the global box office on Friday, becoming the third Marvel title to do so after The Avengers and Iron Man 3. And it's the eighth Disney release to surpass this threshold. Through Thursday, the movie's global total was 0 million, including a massive three-day China total of million and a domestic total of 3 million. In North America, Joss Whedon's Age of Ultron is on the verge of overtaking Furious 7 (9.8 million) to become the top-grossing release of the year to date. Age of Ultron becomes the 21st movie to gross billion or more at the worldwide box office. The first Avengers, also directed by Whedon, is No. 3 on the coveted list (.51 billion and Iron Man 3 No. 7 (.22 billion). The superhero mashup still has a ways to go in terms of catching up with Universal's Furious 7, which has earned .47 billion since its April 2015 release, making it the top performer of the year to date globally. Other territory totals include South Korea ( million the U. K. ( million Mexico ( million Brazil ( million) and Russia ( million).
It always was going to take something heroic to knock Furious 7 from its perch after three weeks at the top of the U. K. box office, and Avengers: Age of Ultron lived up to its early promise. In its opening weekend, the superhero sequel smashed its way to the top, beating a Hulk-sized haul of records along the way. Its initial box-office revenue of .3 million in Britain saw it overtake Fifty Shades of Grey as 2015’s biggest U. K. opening, in the process becoming Marvel's biggest opening in Britain, the biggest superhero opening of all time, the biggest April opening of all time and the eighth-biggest debut overall in recorded U. K. box-office history. The .4 million it took on Saturday alone wasn’t just Disney’s best single day for any film in the U. K., but also the best single day for a superhero movie. The first Avengers film debuted in Britain in 2012 with .9 million, going on to earn .6 million. Age of Ultron looks like it likely will pass that amount with ease.
